Activities in the area

Staying at our accommodation by no means is the only thing you can do here. Along with riding tours here at the farm, there are many other activities and attractions to see close by.

If you feel like you would need a local’s opinion – let us know! We can always help you to plan and suggest the best places to be and see.

Geysir

One of the most famous spots in Iceland is not only 4 km away from us but can even be seen from our windows. Geysir hot-spring area by itself is an experience and next to it are also several places to eat including a souvenir store.

Gullfoss

When you come to Iceland, you have to see the Golden Falls – the one and only Gullfoss waterfall. 5-minute drive and you’re there! Gullfoss Cafe will provide you with lunch, warm tea, and souvenirs to bring home.

We can also arrange a horseback ride there.

Flúðir

The closest village Fludir is offering a lot of things to do. 20 minutes by car takes you to:

  • natural hot spring pool Secret Lagoon. It is the oldest (and probably the nicest!) swimming pool in Iceland. For more info, visit their website secretlagoon.is
  •  closest grocery store Samkaup Strax
  •  several lunch places
  •  the golf course at Kaffi Sel, where you can also get nice pizza afterwards

Faxi waterfall

If you are on your way to Fludir, why not stop on the way and see a less crowded but equally as beautiful waterfall on the way? Around 12 km from Geysir, you will find the waterfall, a great place for a picnic, and a small restaurant named Við Faxa.

Haukadalur forest

Fancy a walk in the woods? Haukadal Forest is the largest national forest in south Iceland. Following the well-marked trails, you can not only see the woods, small streams and a little hotpot where to dip you feet in, but also Haukadalur Church.

We explore the forest from a horseback as well!

Golfing at Geysir

If you are into calmer activity, the Geysir Golf course is for you. It’s just a few minutes of car drive away from us un you will always have the Geysir hot spring area in sight. See more here geysirgolf.is

Riverjet

Jet boating in the Hvítá river is not far from us and can turn into a real adventure! Visit their page icelandriverjet.com

River rafting

A different way of seeing the canyon close to the Gullfoss waterfall and enjoying the power of the Hvítá river. Find out more at http://secretlocal.is/

The farmers

Ása, Hjalti &
the team

“This isn’t our job, it’s our life.”

We are Ása and Hjalti – the family of the farm. We always try to keep a good atmosphere. We have managed this business for more than 30 years and we are still as thrilled as in the beginning. Together we have taken over this place with our team, happy horses, fun rides, sunny people, and big smiles.

Ása

Ása is the homemaker in the family. She never forgets any guests and makes sure that everyone is smiling. Ása is a master in the kitchen and has an outstanding talent for transforming the best from traditional Icelandic cuisine and turning it into a modern meal. You will see a lot of inspirational quotes all over the farm that Ása has gathered. She also has a special knack for interior design and bringing positivity into everyday life.

Hjalti

Hjalti is a man that can do anything. Born as a horse-lover, he has been leading riding tours all his life and still is as passionate about these animals as in his childhood. And horses love him too! Hjalti is a master in choosing the right horse for every rider.

During summers, we couldn’t have run Geysir Hestar alone. Girls from all over the world come to help us and make this farm a place where the magic happens. Together, our always-changing team is not workers and employers – we are family.

The farm

Meet our farm animals

Kjóastaðir II is a real farm. Not only horses but also sheep, lambs, rabbits, chickens, a dog, and a cat live here.

Tenor

Tenor is a young, always happy, and energetic dog who still learns how to do his job. Sometimes a little too active, he can make a mess but he is definitely a friend of everyone.

Remington

Remington is a cat – the one and only. He is a hunter, a boss, a king, and a cheese-lover all in one body. He rules this farm with an observant eye but never says no to a nice rub!

Trina

Trina is our lady rabbit. She roams freely on the farm and is a wonderful mother to all her baby bunnies. She loves crackers, fresh grass, and a little bit of attention too!

The horses

We take good care of our horses

Smooth, friendly, and fast, Icelandic horses have carried people throughout centuries. This breed over time has developed into an exceptional riding breed with great spirit, calm mind, and unique gaits. They not only walk, trot, and canter but also tölt and pace. Haven’t heard of those before? Pay a visit to us and feel the gaits yourself!

We consider our 100 horses our most reliable staff members – there is nothing our four-legged friends wouldn’t do for our riders. Going through rivers, highlands, and long tours is it hot or is it cold? They never misstep and never say no.

Every single one of our herd has a different personality and there is a big chance of meeting your perfect horse match – wiser and older for beginner riders, younger and faster for the experienced ones. And they are always up for a scratch for those who don’t ride.

Come and meet them all!

What our guests say

Reviews

Beautiful property, great location.

I actually booked a night here before reading it was a horse-riding centre due to the location. A perfect spot if you want to divide the Golden Circle into two days – the Hestar is about 5 minute drive from Geysir.

Lovely accommodation, smart, clean, and comfortable. Very welcoming staff and lovely animals to meet if you walk around. Waking up to the view of Geysir in the distance was also not to be forgotten!

Just great!

Went for a short ride with 2 adults and 1 child at the age of 5. The child had the greatest time and the guide Emma was really good with her and gave her confidence so she ended up riding on her own, not wanting to go home. Simply just a wonderful experience!

Never knew Icelandic horse were so nice!

Great ride for 3 hours in the countryside with Freya as our instructor. I got to gallop again for the first time in years and my boyfriend galloped for the first time ever! Freya gave us a lot of info on the Icelandic horse, she knows her stuff and holds enough conversation (No silence or rambling). Professional!
The calm Icelandic horses are ideal for beginners.
Only downside is that the prices are quite high compared to other horse riding companies.
Nice guesthouse next to the stables and cool yurts next door!

Iceland Highlight

The crew at Geysir Hestar was fantastic. Emma was our guide and she gave us more instructions than anyone had ever before. Her primary focus was on us being comfortable and secure. Was a great ride and the horses are magical
